ABOUT THE STATION
Highland FM was founded in the late 1970s and began full-time broadcasting in 1987. Licensed as a Community Broadcaster, the station’s philosophy is to cater for local needs, mirror our community’s interests, entertain and inform as well as provide opportunities to train in radio skills and access to local airwaves. Primarily funded by its own resources, the station has no paid full-time staff and relies on volunteers for its operation and management.
ABOUT OUR PROGRAMMES
On air 24 hours daily, Highland FM brings you the friendly voices of the community plus a wide range of music ranging from classic, contemporary, jazz and country. As a community station we also have programmes for ethnic communities (German, Welsh & Japanese are just some of the languages you’ll hear at special times) religious programmes, readings for the print handicapped, local news and interviews. Our schedule also includes the BBC World Service overnight.
PART OF THE COMMUNITY
Highland FM broadcasts from studios in the Mittagong area and is owned and operated by Highland Media Co-operative. Broadcasting it’s signal from a transmitter on Mount Gibraltar, Highland FM serves communities all across the Southern Highlands. We always welcome enquiries from groups and individuals in the area who look for support in their local projects.
